Some misinformation creeping in here.

I had a German motor in my Coupe. The German motors had the distributor at the back, French have them at the front. On a French motor, a governor/and rev counter (not a tacho, like an hours meter) mounted at the back.

On my German motor I removed a cover at the front and fitted a conventional distributor.

I can't remember which heads mine had, I think they were 8BA type, yes, I'm sure of that because I have the water pumps on Old Rusty and they have the extra port at the top. Obviously the German motors developed along with others as time went by.

French have the distributor at the front, it is a vacuum only device, and is often swapped out for a chevy conversion, or in my case I used a 59A type cam and 2 bolt front cover for a crab dist. at the front.

People have used both the German dist at the back and ford type at the front on a German motor for twin plug heads. Or at least I think In saw that once, may have imagined it.

The German motor in my coupe was a beautifully smooth motor.
