To test the generator you do not jump the field to the battery terminal at the regulator. Remove the field wire off its regulator terminal and connect it over to the armature terminal. Then rev engine up to about 2000 RPM and generator should charge up high if it is any good. Regulator cut out is still in circuit for this test. If the generator charges then the regulator is most likely at fault. Regards, Kevin.
