Tom, All good advice above, and I have a bit more: You say the title doesn't match the frame, but it has the original transmission? Not sure what you're saying, transmission/title, or transmission/cab? FWIW, the title would match numbers stamped on the frame and the transmission, nothing on the cab.
Whatever you can do before selling to confirm legal ownership, you'll be better off at the sale. Some DMVs affix a new registration plate to the car, some go by the serial number, but if there is no title to match the serial number, the DMV may require a bond for a period of time against someone else claiming ownership. Hope you can get that worked out, because a valid-numbers-matching-title is a game changer.
