Here is a link showing one. Is is inserted into the opening for gas in the top of the Shutoff, so sticks up into the tank when the shutoff is installed in the tank. To inspect/clean, the shutoff has to be removed from the gas tank. This is an accessory, the As did not come with the filters from the factory.
Debris in the tank has s tendency to damage the gas shutoff with the result being it leaks when the shutoff is off. The leak is not from the valve body in the interior, but causes the shutoff not to 100% turn off the gas supply to the carb.
