Yes and no. The issue is more one of "cracking" inherent to the weld itself. Inclusions can cause this (AC welders are prone to this) as can bad technique with a standard stick welder.

MIG is my welding of favor. MUCH more inclusive weld and no inclusions from the shield material/substance. Many use TIG for the first pass to get the most inclusive weld possible.

With proper pre-heat, checking as you go along with dye penetrant, and proper interpass temperature there should be NO cracking. Actually with 7018 filler/rod, your weld will be stronger than the original metal.

I think a "re-do" is warranted though. A lot rides on that support.
