Re: Knocking Rod-pulling the pan
I had all the babbitt fall out of a rod 20 years ago, when it happened I thought I had driven over a telephone pole , I limped the last 2 miles home( slow with retarded spark), dropped the pan to find no babbitt on #3 rod.
Upon inspection there was no damage to the crank (try that with inserts), I pulled the piston down as far as I could, rotated it , pulled the clip, moved the wristpin out by wiggling the rod and pushing with a heavy bent wire.
I did it as a "patch" repair until I could do a proper repair ---that was 20 years ago and other than for a slightly reduced top speed (balance change, now have more vibration too)the car still runs fine.
