Sounds like a load of hogwash to me.
Funny how things get repeated on and on without any research or thinking .

As stated ,IF a radial without a tube could be kept inflated on a non safety rim, a pothole could deflate the tyre instantly with no tube fitted when the bead blew off the outside seal.
