I drilled a short 1/8 inch deep 1/12 inch diameter hole in the rod ends. Then I pushed a long steel wire with 1/12 inch diameter from bottom to the top and stuck it outside into the end of the hand lever. Then pressed the hand lever slowly down and guide it with the steel wire through the lower opening.
