Default 29 Tudor windshield electric wiper questions

I finally have the windshield installed and now I am working on the electric wiper.

I know what the three holes are for where the wiper motor attaches to the windshield frame but what is that one hole that is more towards the center of the upper hinge--see picture

I want to add a ground wire to the wiper motor. I have little faith in the original ground connection. Any ideas on how to route the ground wire?

When I first got this car the wiper motor was in a box in the back seat, so I did not know how everything went together. I noticed the the center hole where the motor is mounted is slotted so that the hand lever has room to move when the windshield is opened. However, the other two holes are not notched. Is that the way it is supposed to be?

Any help is appreciated.
