A typical 8BA bolt-on bell housing is made of stamped/drawn steel. I've seen the ones that take a typical early Ford transmission as well as the ones for the later 3-speeds (like modern transmissions).

Did they make a 1/2 cast iron version that I'm not aware of? If so, I would not mount it on a regular engine stand.

I would mount an 8BA on a regular stand without the bell housing attached - just like any modern engine.
