The boats were highly flammable also hundreds of gallons of gasolene were on board . The exhaust system had to be routed through the hull to the stern where it would not invade the passenger space . To cool the exhaust gasses water was injected into the exhaust to cool it . Also cut the need for very extensive insulation and also acted as a sound deadener .
