Pete here are my thoughts on the subject. We'll use bikes since I also love old Harleys and used to have a shop building vintage Triumphs as well. If I had a 50s panhead that was mostly stock and had a matching frame & engine I would feel obligated to restore it and that's what I would do. But.. if I had a frame that had already been previously chopped and was missing major components including the engine I wouldn't hesitate to install an aftermarket engine & trans and build a nice custom. Making something nice out of nothing is better than having it end up as a pile of random parts in my book. Hopefully other guys here will agree. If not I understand.
