That is on the "battery" side of the cut-out. See the diagram above left.
Check your frame ground, your battery connections starting at the battery and working your way up to the generator using the diagram as your roadmap.
If it will turn over when you press on the button with your foot, you can skip the big cable stuff (possibly)
Check your ammeter. The ammeter is made like a "fusible link" and will burn out to open circuit under greater than 20 amps (like if you brush the wire and momentarily ground a live connection.)
