I believe it is easier IF you can remove the filler neck first. Sometimes that threaded collar can be a real pita to get loose. Plenty of penetrating oil, soaking time and a correct size spanner wrench is usually necessary. You also need to remove the gas line fitting, wire to sending unit through floor access door, and three bolts that fasten tank to frame. There may also be safety wire going through those bolts that must come out first. Then you push tank over to left hand side and lower on right hand side. You may need to remove rear exhaust clamp and move tailpipe out of the way.
