Jim - I spray a light coat of ArmorAll onto the outside (metal channel side) of the rubber and into the channel. Wrap the rubber around the glass, being sure to not leave any gap where it wraps around the glass. Push it into the channel, and let it dry overnight. You can stretch it lengthwise if you wish (clamp to the glass - carefully!), that will make the rubber thinner (if you do, release the clamps after the glass is fully inserted to enable the rubber to relax). The rubber will "stick" to the glass and the metal channel as it dries. You may wish to wrap some tape around the glass and the window to keep the glass from squeezing out. Cut the rubber to length after it has completely dried.

If you don't have ArmorAll, a silicone-based detailing spray will also work.

I've heard that you can also use a soapy water solution, but I haven't tried that.
