That reminds me of, one day at lunch break in the JD Zweibrucken plant. Zweibrucken, Germany, where I was working I was sitting at a table with the German combine repairmen.
I told them that joke, in German, and they did not laugh. They just sat and stared at me.
Then, one of the guys told a joke about a dead baby of a certain religious heritage and they all fell about the place laughing their butts off
I laughed to be polite but thought 'that is the dumbest joke I ever heard??'
Jokes do not translate especially from English into German and vice versa
