I have a friend that is a pilot and he has collected sign in records of local airports. The pilot had to sign in the log book with his name, weight, height, and destination so the airport would know how many passengers he could haul. He said the average weight of the pilots back in the 30's was 150-160. That's a big difference from what we see now and explains some of the designs that we wonder about.
