"The attached picture is the earliest version where the large vacuum opening in the front was to provide vacuum through a pipe that was routed around the front of the engine to a vacuum-assisted clutch that never made into production. The second smaller opening on the side directly above where the carburetor attaches is for the vacuum line to the windshield wiper motor." (Credit to David Rehor).
