First, the rod is cleaned either chemically or glass beaded.
The pin bushing (if present) is removed.
The big end and pin bore are checked for being within rebuilding specs.
The rod alignment is checked for being within rebuilding specs.
The cap and rod are index marked by a non impact method.
The cap is removed and the parts magnafluxed.
The mating surfaces on the cap are reduced by approximately .010.
Depending on how much the big end bore was out of round at the initial measurement, this amount may have to be increased slightly.
The cap is installed and torqued to spec. with new nuts or bolts and proper lube. If the rod uses bolts, a standard tap is run through the threads in the rod.
After checking for burrs and residue, a new pin bushing (if used) is installed.
The big end is honed or bored to finish spec.
The rod is set up for pin boring to proper center to center length.
Final inspection.

The bearings should be installed as for a new rod.
