I recently bought an "Oil Filled" Standard Motor Products coil for application on another of my antique cars. The instructions with it didn't make any mention of recommendation/restrictions on mounting orientation.
So, I wrote to their technical support asking if the coil could be mounted upside down.
This is the reply I got: "Ignition coil can be mounted in any orientation."

Of course if the seal fails and the oil leaks out, then obviously the coil will eventually fail.
