Cabriolet owners often reverse their bars to prevent them from coming 'unlocked', as a result of having a poor fitting top or excessive wear at the joint.

^THIS!^ At least half the pix I see on the net are upside down and/or backward. The passenger side should look like a letter S and the driver's like a backward S - the fake knob should point to the rear on both sides.
