I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add, after removing the light switch in my '48 F1, that the slot to put a screwdriver in, is on the drivers side of the switch. The tab is pushed to the rear of the switch (towards the firewall), then the shaft can be turned a quarter turn +/-, and pulled out. Then the bezel can be easily unscrewed by hand.
