Re: Flywheel / clutch area noise
I recently found that the roller bearing in the transmission that goes between the input shaft and the main shaft had completely fallen apart. This was evidenced by a very loud rattling noise with the engine idling and the clutch engaged but transmission in neutral.
We thought it was something in the engine. Took the engine out and found nothing, but happened to turn the input shaft of the transmission by hand while the engine was out, and the feel was unmistakeable. At that point, getting the transmission out and apart was a relatively easy task. Replaced all three sets of roller bearings. The quality of those bearings and where to get them is a whole other topic....... For now, I am back in business.
