Deciding what is correct will be an interesting decision as what you have now is 67% 1940 and 33% 1941. If the jeep original wiring harness was set up for an ammeter then the 1941 gauge was the only choice they had. Following this illogical logic, maybe the oil pressure gauge from 1941 was chosen because it is on the same side as the ammeter, however I don't think so. I believe you are right in that they used what was available since the gauges all function the same except for the voltmeter versus ammeter. I would look for either a 1940 or a 1941 temp gauge in NOS since they are readily available for $20 or so. You can use either one but to keep the mismatched system "pure", you can switch the face from a 41 and replace it with the original one you have. Hopefully the Jeep gurus can jump in here as I am in over my head.
However get either 40 or 41 temp gauge to get started.
