The gap is between the front of the door to the cowl / windshield pillar.

I have found less bent hinges vs worn top hinge pins. The holes are worn out letting the rear of the door sag. They make oversized pins to correct this. You might want to take the rear of the door with it slightly open and raise the latch end up and down. How much movement is there?
