Re: Ford engine green paint code
I have had good luck with engine spray can paint. The key to a good job is to clean the metal to get all the grease and dirt off. Use heavy steel wool and solvents, then wipe down with a lint free rag. Then use a metal prep to etch the surface so the primer gets a good grip. Epoxy primer is best. Then spray three coats of the engine green. Hopefully, you haven't got the cylinder head on yet so the copper gasket will show after you are done. One final step after the paint has dried. I take a rag and with your finger, dip the rag is some wheel bearing grease and rub it into the head gasket area all around the engine. This prevents the seepage from the gasket getting in contact with the cast iron. This is where the corrosion will start on a nicely painted engine. I do this at the start of the touring season each year. Wipe off the excess with a clean rag. My Model A engine was painted six years ago and it looks just as good as the day I finished it. Ed
