My question is: Is it absolutely necessary to use 600w oil in my transmission and rear end on my Model A? In the cold here, 600w turns to solid tar and your vehicle will not move. Try finding 600w at NAPA...
Is there a reason I can't use 90w?
Average temperatures for Wainwright U. S. Army Airfield, which is 3 miles from Fairbanks.

These temperatures are similar to those we had in 1960s when I was using car for daily driver.

600W is close to 250 weight and was WAY too thick in Winter time, very hard to shift on cold mornings.

140 was better.

90 worked well but I did changed it back to 600W when spring /summer came.

In recent years I found that 75W-140 works fine year round as mentioned by some in above posts.
