That is a great picture. I'm a railroad buff and have never seen a picture of a contraption like that. Logging railroads were usually low budget operations, re-purposing much of their equipment, seldom discarding anything. As far as the gear reduction, the trackage was marginal at best, limited to very low speeds. The As potential of speed of 40+mph would have been a death ride on most backwoods railroads.
