I give the rear wheel bearings a shot of grease every time I service the car. Because I have an oil filter and do long distances I service it at about 3-4,000 miles. I have never taken the hub off to pack the bearing but if I were assembling one, I'd pack it beforehand with proper wheel bearing grease, not chassis grease like it gets when I use the grease nipple.
I've done about 45,000 miles in that car and the bearings are still going fine.
That's just my experience!
