As Kube says above, the proper way to measure the WIDTH of a wheel is
BETWEEN the two bead flanges. The 85 horse 16" wheel for '39 will be 4" between the beads. Be careful, as there are a few 60 horsepower wheels out there that measure 3-5/8" between beads, but they're rare. As far as measuring the bolt circle, the true diameter of the circle is 10-1/4". NOTE that this measurement is the TRUE CIRCLE....NOT the measurement between lug holes! Below is a picture showing a normal 16" diameter "wide-five" wheel along with a rare "high-clearance" 18" "wide-five" wheel. Note the visible width difference where the semi-circular vent holes appear just inside the hoops of the two wheels. The one that you are interested in appears on the left. An
OVERALL diameter measurement of this wheel would be APPROXIMATELY 17". DD
