Having had a close call with a bumper jack when I was young, I NEVER support a car with only one jack stand or one hydraulic jack. I either use two jack stands or a combination of a jack stand and hydraulic jack both supporting the same point. It gets a little crowded under the car at times using two means of support but my life is certainly worth the inconvenience.
