Back in the '50s/early '60s,
many flathead powered magazine cars were "said" to use '48 Merc engines, so for many years I believed the '48 Merc was something "special". Many years later, I learned that all '46-'48 Ford/Merc 59 engines were the same, but still wonder why many thought the '48 Merc was best.
