About 1961 I was in Hong Kong drinking a bottled coke in the Union Jack Club. As I was a collector of Coke bottles I looked at the bottom of the bottle, where Coca Cola imprinted the manufacturing facility of that particular bottle. There I found my own home town of "Hayward, Calif - USA" .
In the 1930's Yokohama, Japan had a 'manufacturing' plant for Ford Model A's where they assembled the imported cars. I am sure that, as in most foreign plants, they had some smaller component parts made locally, which would not be stamped "USA".
