Try searching "automatic" and you will find a lot of information. As we get older there is more need for automatic transmissions. If a person needs one for medical reasons I am all in favor of it but if you just "want one" I am against it. When you read the archives you will see that there are preferred transmissions to use for the conversion. I don't believe the Ford-o-matic was one of them, it would probably take too much power in addition to the basic fit issues. If I was faced with the problem I would consider starting with a late model 4 cylinder and the automatic transmission designed to work together (forgive me Henry for I have sinned). Remember that the conversion will involve changing the rear end to open drive and building new clutch and brake pedal mounts. A good question to post on HAMB. My advice, forget it unless you have a medical issue.
