An addition...split the possible problem areas. Solder a short pipe to something like a thinner can, hook it to carb as gravity feed. Unplug the fuel pump so you are not immolated during the experiment!
if the thing fires up and keeps going, problem is aft of the carb. If behavior does not improve, time to yank the lid on the carb.
