Re: Making a Run to the LA Roadster Show and Beyond
So I am filling in about the trip as we did not have very good internet connections. I have pretty much covered our time in LA and Earl and I were on our way to the Pueblo NSRA Rocky Mountain Nats ....
I added pics on posts 113, 114, 115, 107, and added all of the pics and descriptions for Day 8 and 9 - so, please check back through to get the full picture of the shop tours ....
I will pick up where we left off which was leaving Pomona towards Grants, NM as Earl and I were on our way to Pueblo. We left Pomona at 3AM, trying to beat the heat going across the desert. We finally got into Kingman, AZ at about 9:30 and it was all ready over 100 degrees. The reason for going to Grants, NM was because johnrodz here on this board was visiting his wife's family there. It is an 680+ mile trip, we were losing an hour, and you know I started having issues with the car thinking it was vapor lock. As you know, when we got to Grants we found tumbleweed in the carb on Tuesday morning, and thought we had that licked. At this point, we were invited to attend a trip up Mt Taylor, in a 4x4, via the back side of the mountain which is only accessible with a 4x4. We had some spectacular views from areas that few get the opportunity to see ....
Eddie, one of John's b-in-laws, was our tour guide. We first went through San Mateo where Eddie has a small man cave that he goes to hang out in, we passed the old uranium mines, coal mines, and acres and acres of grazing land. This was all part of the 300+ year old Lee Ranch which at one point was 1.5 million acres HUGE! John's wife's family has been part of the Lee Ranch since its inception which was when the Spanish gave the Lee family their land grant ...
