if you find that to be the case--remove steering wheel and pull out the old bushing by threading sheet metal screws into the rubber--usually 4 pull up on the screws a little at a time, when you get the mess out--go to the hardware store and buy a wheel bearing for a wheel barrow wheel--3/4" id--od will be correct--you may need to slightly grind the od of the bearing "collar" to gain the clearance--slide down the shaft-use some construction adh to hold the od tight to the steering tube-now you have a sqeeek proof upper shaft bearing for lees than $5
