Well we used them up to the early 80s at the Shell station I worked at as I recall. I have a couple around somewhere. I stacked a LOT of cardboard cans on island racks in those days, we moved a lot of oil on the full service islands. Good thing cars seem to consume less between changes these days, not that long ago it was customary for about 10% or more to take a quart. I think the change to bottles took place not too long after that.
