Loosen the packing nut ALL the way so there is space between the
nut and the pump. Go to the hardware store and get some graphite
or Teflon packing material that's less than 1/8" in diameter. Looking from
the front of the engine toward the radiator wrap 3 or 4 turns of the
packing clockwise around the shaft. Clockwise so the end of the nut
helps tighten the packing as you tighten it. With the fan belt loose
tighten the nut until you fell the packing drag on the shaft. If the nut
go's way into the pump loosen the nut and add more packing and
readjust drag. This should be good for a few years with small
adjustments if it drips. G.M.
