Default Re: Roadster door hinges

The advise to disassemble and tighten the knuckle is good, though you might want to consider a weld tack to hold it. Remember the open car hinge pins do not have knurling and rely on the spring action of the knuckle to hold them in place.

To my knowledge there are two manufactures of open car hinges, Albrecht Towing and us (Wescott's). There are some positives and negatives about both.

Albrecht roadster hinges are (I think) the ones Snyders sells. They are unplated. The up side is the cost is low and the knuckle detail very fine. The down side is they use a very soft metal so it is harder to keep the knuckle closed.

Our hinges are plated with a yellow wash and cost somewhat more. We use a harder metal and have some stamping distortion in the knuckle detail that needs finishing by the installer. The pins do fit tight, some people do like to ream out for a easier motion on the inside knuckles (keep the outside ones tight to hold the pin).

Albrecht only makes theirs for the 1928-29 roadster door and the late 1930-31 roadster. (3 mount hole on the lower hinge).

We do both of those and the early 1930 (2 mount hole), the rear doors for the 4-door phaetons, and the 1926-27 roadster and touring.
