Kool! I always try to save original parts too,just to see if I can, nothing ventured, nothing gained. At the San Diego Auto Museum restoration shop, I tackled the bottom panel of a 1929 Erskine radiator shell, It was 90% gone and the 10% was lace. With a torch, brazing rod and a good detailed photo I proceeded to braze "on air" for 2-3 days to see if I could save it as a replacement was not available. Two pounds of brazing rod later and a LOT of grinding we had a playable shell-though very expensive! It would have been easier to braze in a patch panel but I wanted to see if I could do it.
