Page 359-360 of the service bulletins---all starting crank bearings now have a hole in the lower part of the bearing, flowing a little oil through this hole allows oil drain down between the sides of the crossmember and eliminates any possibility of a squeak occurring between the crossmember and the spring>

I too though --why does the crank need oil ----then I tried oiling there ---and saw a change in the lubrication of the spring ---the oil goes down the space between the centerbolt of the spring and the frame onto the spring
