Backfiring thru the carb can be and electrical issue as suggested. I lost the ground in the distributor of my 57 Studebaker, backfired and caught fire.

I cleaned the generators on my 36 Fordoor and 57 Studebaker inside and out with mineral spirits. Worked fine for both.

Spray a coat of CLEAR engine temp rated paint, it will protect it without looking painted. I did on my stock 36 3 yrs ago still looks clean.

I use YOM plates on both my 36 Ford and 57 Studebaker. Haven't even registered the title on the 57 yet.....now that it's running I need to do that.

My 36 sought its own level, just above the tubes, where it stopped spitting out. Runs fine, no cooling issues. Skip did my pumps but I dont have the extra valve.

Supereal, I think he's referring to mechanical brakes if he's talking about an energizer kit.
