Re: Changes in vendors offering distributor rebuilds

It seems we geezers are dyeing off at an alarming rate. Knowledge and skill goes too.

Re: Ford engines in rail vehicles

Thank you for the information Andy. Not being a German reader, could you answer a question for us Yanks? Was the transmission used as if the vehicle was a truck? If so, the driver must have been...

Re: 55-56 Ford power steering

The parts I found for mine came from three states. The cylinder came from dry Texas, it was like new with a Ford Rebuilt sticker on it. The other parts were used as bought, then sent to Lares...

Re: Question regarding 1956 T-bird damper details and timing marks

A fresh rebuilt Y block will run best with about 36 degrees total advance. Try using a vacuum gauge for timing, not a light. That engine with that gas will be right, not a book written 70 years ago.

Re: 3 point seat belts in a '52-'56 4 door

I had three point belts from Julianos. I doubt the center post on a 55 will be strong enough to stand up to a bad wreck, but look on the bright side, your body will be close to the scene of the...

Re: Disk brakes on 55 ford sedan

There was an article in Y block magazine a few years back on installing Granada spindles and brakes on a 55 sedan. If you can still find a Granada in a scrap yard, its pretty easy to do the swap, and...

Re: Brakes

Well, crap. After I wrote the above, I clicked on it and found they have gone out of business and the company is for sale.
Try just masterbrake.com. That opens to another company, but I think they...

Re: Y-Block Spark Plug Wire Grommets

I used wires from Speedway, and grommets from MACS. I peeled the grommets around the wires, they do not slide together. Then assemble the metal parts around the grommets when the wire lengths are...

Re: Interchange? for 1957 3 speed>to full synchromesh?

The easiest way around this is for the driver to learn how to double clutch in to first gear. Find an empty flat parking lot with few obstacles, and cruise around for a minute in first at idle RPM....

Re: Blown freeze plug

If there is one hard to get to, think about putting in a block heater. No hammering, just wipe the hole clean, stick in the heater and tighten a screw with a small socket. Yes, it will cost more, but...

Re: Door fits on 55,56 and 57 T-Birds ??????

At the factory, after the doors were bolted on, the final fit was by bending the door over a knee, or a 2x4 covered in carpet.

Re: A question for old guys

I'll be 79 in two months. I am a life long rodder. After back surgery that had me in a full body cast for 12 weeks, I sold most of my stuff, and all the old cars. Then the wife passed, and now there...

If you have new or very good side mounts, the steady rest is not needed.

Re: 1955 center HUD light

I used an LED row of lights glued to a chunk of aluminum bolted to the top of the rear window. It lit up the whole inside of the car, reflecting off the inside of the rear window. I added another...

Re: 55 ford accessory position

Re: Holley 4150 carburetor development history

In 57, the use of three carbs may have been due to supply. Possibly off topic, possibly not, how many of you have seen a 460 with a factory Quadrajet?

Re: Need Help - Transmission Oil migration?

If the front seal allows air to leak in, oil will leak back and out. The solution it to turn over the engine enough to keep the seal wet. During a long cold winter, you may wish to put a pan under it...

Re: 300 c.i.d. Valve clearance and ignition timing?

A 300 six has a three grove crankshaft damper. A 240 looks the same but has one groove. I don't remember the 223, but I do remember they go like stink.

Re: Oh What Fun It Is To Ride

Being near Denver, you are close to the guys who raced out of a local dealer who's name is lost in my dusty old mind. Search Denver racers, they are old, but still active. Really nice 36, take good...

Re: Edelbrock 500 for 292?

The Edelbrock is a great carb for the street. Its only downfall is it is prone to boiling the gas in the bowl in very hot weather, after shut down. Fit as big a spacer under it that you can and still...

Re: Ceramic finishes

VHT has a high temp engine enamel in rattle cans with ceramic. It gives a nice shine and lasts much longer, but not on exhaust.

Re: Strng Bx-Drg Lnk-Stud Cntrl Valve Slack

On my 55, everything was in good shape, no leaks. At rest, engine off, there was nearly a half turn of play in the steering wheel. Engine running and pulling car at 50 or so, that amount of turn on...
