Re: 55 T-Bird power seat

Do you have a '55 T-Bird wiring diagram that shows the seat motor circuits? You should have one.

The wiring diagram I have shows a large yellow power wire (with a 40A circuit breaker) coming...

Re: Broke My 292 Y Block Oil Dipstick Tube

Which exhaust manifold bolt were you trying to attach the support strap to?

I had to replace the oil dipstick tube on my '55 292 (Bird) engine, the replacement tube lined up really well when the...

Re: Broke My 292 Y Block Oil Dipstick Tube

If you can't find a good used one from another pickup truck for less $ on craigslist or ebay... I believe they're the same part as on '55/'57 Tbirds.
Part number 6754 at most any Tbird resto parts...

Re: 1961 Fords - Where have they all gone?

just fyi...
I called this yard today, it's about an hour away from me. The wagon, convertible and at least one other '61 are still there. The owner said the convertible had been 'T-boned" and most...

"The ... seat motors ... will work on 12V, but they will run very fast. The seat motor running too fast should be no problem." (from this link...)...

Re: 1961 Fords - Where have they all gone?

mercman, If there's a chance this place and the cars still exist it may not be too far from me.
I could go take a look (if I knew where it was).

Re: 1955 Ford Fairlane rear leaf springs

That's the same vendor and maybe even the same springs as the link back in reply # 9.

Re: tires

You are correct.
The Michelins I mentioned had a 3 digit date that decoded to the last few weeks of '93.

A couple pounds 'extra' but within the maximum may or may not cause wear at the center...

Re: tires

Check the Date Code on the sidewall of the used tires. (photo below)

If they're more than 8 to maybe 10 years old they aren't safe at hiway speeds, putt-putting around town would be ok. Think...

Re: 55 ford sedan wiper question

The top of the pump may or may not be labeled like this one.
When the engine is running you'll get vacuum on the 'wiper' fitting.
IIRC, if the hoses on the pump are backwards you may(?) get...

Re: 1955 ford Ranchwagon Fuel sending unit

Is the shape of the 'wagon' tank different somehow? Is there a way to try adjusting the float arm that can be undone if it doesn't correct the gauge reading? If it can, just experiment.

IF the...

Re: Y block temperature sender in right head

bluecollarbill,
Depending on which distributor the engine has the clearance between the head & distributor is about an inch at best.
The hole in the head at the right rear is not threaded. The...

Re: tires

Quite a few folks on another web group I belong to have recently been very critical of the declining quality of wide whitewall Coker tires and have had much better luck with Diamond Back tires. They...

Re: 1955 Ford Fairlane rear leaf springs

Look for a spring & suspension shop in your area.
Unless the springs are too far gone they can be re-arched. Usually for noticeably less than replacements, and they should fit back in easier as...

Re: Thank You, Ford Barners!

In about '57/'58/'59 (???) Ford changed the back-up light power source from the headlight switch to the Accessory terminal of the Ignition switch.
It's a helpful daytime safety feature, lets folks...

Re: '57 T Bird air cleaner question

I should have looked closer, I do need new bifocals.
Just checked the '57 Bird air cleaners I have. Two have round wire staples. The third one that needs new cork has flat wire staples that look...

Re: '57 T Bird air cleaner question

If you've got a handheld staplegun see if any of the available staples are close enough in size.
They're made of flat wire like the ones that came out. They won't be SS but should get a bit of...

Re: Ford VRS Mercury Y-Block Radiator ?

Someone may have a recommendation for a good place to buy late 50's Ford radiators.

Re: Oil cooler for C6 transmission

Apologies for slightly derailing the original post but I couldn't help it, had to post the photo around here somewhere. At least it's Ford and 'bigger is better' related.

I rented this rig to...

Re: Power steering setup

The T-Bird PS pump is held up slightly higher and closer to the waterpump to clear the left front upper control arm mounting shaft, since the frame is narrower.
Yes, the belts & pulleys on the front...

Re: Power steering setup

It looks like the front track width isn't the same.
And I know the brackets that hold the PS pump onto the waterpump & head are not the same. Although the T-Bird brackets may(?) fit in a full-sized...

Re: 1955 Fairlane OE wheel size

Too much backspace in the front can cause the tire sidewall to rub on the upper suspension. This one came off a friends '57 T-Bird. (I don't know the backspace measurement on the wheel.) I've...

Re: 1955 Fairlane OE wheel size

I think your 15x5 guess is correct.
Just measured the seemingly original(?) wheel inside the spare tire for my '55 (not Fairlane). It looks to be the same type wheel as the other four... 15x5, 5 on...
