According to Green book, 21 stud 33-37 uses (351428-S7) washer on Aluminum heads only.

If you are NOT going to use any 8BA components ( oil filler/breather or road draft) this is about the going U.S. price for a used one on EBAY.

The head with no Mercury ID is probably a replacement head and it does not have the cast in oil filter mounting bosses. (most likely'48 '49 Ford car/truck or '49 Mercury)
This could be a Ford engine...

Just a thought, if foreign made it may be possible that these are made with metric threads (10mm x 1) pitch.
They are just slightly bigger than the 3/8" dia. standard ones that are used.

The bushings are threaded into the control arm and should bottom out on it before any "pulling together" happens, then they are tightened to spec.

The only way that it may be effective is to seal the oil breather/filler opening so that a vacuum can be formed to draw air thru the front oil pan breather.

Suggest that it is not military, farm or commercial but a 1951 Canadian Monarch air cleaner.
The one below is the 1949 version.

They are out there but pricey.
They are 12 volt but the 6 volt bulbs that are available should work.

Adapted a 7 blade flex-fan from a 70's vintage 6 cyl. Fairmont.
Pumps a lot of air and is quiet. (much better than stock)

Just wondering, the engines were most likely filled with oil for the process, was that oil removed and replaced with new oil for delivery.

Not sacrificial "anode" wire, but for support of the casting forms to prevent collapse during the casting process.
And you can remove it if you choose to.

Have not seen the photo you speak of but if it is an instructional photo, I would have to consider that a pre-production version of the vehicle may have been used to make the photo.
