Re: 292 y-block distributor puzzler

What dmsfrr said is 100% correct. Check and reset your base timing at idle like he said.
Also, you won't really be able to see the timing advance in neutral with a timing light since the advance is...

Re: 292 y-block distributor puzzler

To start with, I think you said you put the plug wires on the cap for clockwise rotation. Y-Block V8's were counter-clockwise distributor rotation. Need to re-do the wires if that's the case.
I...

Re: 239 OHV question

Some of the replacement condensers these days (made in China) are causing no start and hot stall symptoms. I have heard that condensers from NAPA (Echlin ?) are about the best and still made in the...

Re: 94 float height and float drop?

The float drop spec on a Ford/Holley 94 carb in my opinion is to make sure the fuel valve needle doesn't drop too far and possibly cock and stick. Just my opinion. Also prevents the float from...

Re: Holley 94 accelerator pump helper spring

I've seen that spring below the pump piston in a few carbs. I agree it's not in any parts drawings. If the hole in the throttle lever for the pump link is worn (or the pin on the link is worn) it can...

Re: 226G vs 226H

I wish I knew if the H would be a direct bolt in or not to replace the G six. Seems like your getting responses, but just questions for you instead of answering your original question.

Re: 292 V8 carb alternative

To replace the O-rings you need to separate the bowl from the base. To do that you need to remove the carb from the engine since one of the two screws that hold them together goes in from the center...

Re: 292 V8 carb alternative

Or I can help you out too. Been specializing in Holley 4000 teapot carbs for a long time. I commented on this in the Late V8 section (where it belongs) and not sure why all the comments are in the...

Re: 292 V8 carb alternative

Hotrodart,

What did you do for the correct vacuum to the distributor advance diaphragm ? Or did you swap to a later distributor ?

Re: 53 with automatic

All air cooled Fordomatics were three speed also, until the later ones in the 60's that were two speeds.

Re: 292 V8 carb alternative

He has a 4 barrel carb, but even if he did have a two barrel carb, it would be a three bolt on a '56 Ford, and still require an adaptor for a four bolt Rochester 2G.

Re: 292 V8 carb alternative

The only other carb out there that will bolt on and work with your distributor is the '56 Mercury Carter WCFB that is designed to work with your distributor (same as '56 Mercury). It was one year...

Re: 292 V8 carb alternative

To me, the best thing you can do is repair the leak or have it repaired. If you change to a newer more modern carb (would need an adaptor to bolt it on), you start a chain reaction of things needed....

There is a nice '53 Victoria automatic V8 on the Ford Barn swap meet section right now (late V8 section). Listed by fordrelic.

I agree on the Shell Rotella 15-40. I have heard nothing but good about it for many years.

Re: Stromberg carburettors

Should be no need to change the jets if you run a Stromberg 48 on a 239 flathead V8. Carburetors are calibrated to give a proper air/fuel ratio based on the amount of air coming in. I don't...

Re: Sticking float valve

Does Gross-Jet make a float valve for a Ford/Holley 94 carb (model 59) ? I think that's what mrtexas has. Or are they made just for Stromberg carbs ? I have had good luck with solid steel needles, as...

Re: Transmission, 1955 Victoria

If it only clunks one time every time you change from forward to reverse or vise versa, then more than likely it's one or both u-joints.
