Re: Positive Ground

When i got my Tudor the rear lights did not work, the previous owner did not add ground wires to cure the problem caused by having fiberglass rear fenders.

Re: 1930-31 Model A pickup fenderless

But it's got one of Henry's new-fangled 8 cylinder motors in it. :-)

Re: Hershey restaurants

Oh yeah, Shady Maple is worth the drive. I go there at least a couple of times every Hershey. It is big and the food is very good.

Re: Balancing an engine at home (Newbie)

Model A engines will vibrate to some degree no matter how well balanced they are. A poorly balanced engine will vibrate even more.

Re: Gilmore Model A Day

Got my reservations a while ago, looking forward to it. Have been to the Gilmore before but not for Model A Day.

Re: The Terry Burtz 5 main bearing engine blocks are back on track.

An inline four of this size would need a balance shaft to be totally smooth. You have to draw the line somewhere or you will end up with a totally different animal. I would be happy with a new B...

Re: Model A Improvements

I think the addition of a fuse to the electrical system would be reasonable. To be fair, when the A was new it had genuine Ford wiring properly installed and all brand new so it is hard to know if...

Re: Tillotson carburetors

Smith & Jones has gasket sets for these, the float and needle valve are the same as Zenith. They are held together with one bolt like a Zenith but because they are pot-metal warping is a problem.

Re: Sealed water pump bearings

Be sure the oil passages in the block are clear so that the bushings get lubricated. Gasket cement and crap often plug them up. You need those double pulley truck pumps if you have to have sealed...

Re: Ford flathead drivability

A clue is that the problem started after leaving the key on and frying the points. I would definitely try a new coil, the old one would have gotten real hot when the key was left on with the points...

Do those recessed valves have any clearance?

Re: Harmonic Balancer

I would find the generator to be important if we are talking about no belt.

Yes, it is how the part numbering system was set up.

Re: Tudor front seat crunch time

EZ-GO Golf Cars have a nice foam in their seats. I stocked up when I worked there.

Re: 4" Merc crank & rods

Are you sure it hasn't been stroked to 4 1/8 with those 2" rod journals? Which rods do you have?

Re: 1930 Tudor door dovetails

I think you can "fish" new rubbers and brass guide into the hole from the outside of the door. The vendors sell a kit for this.

Re: Lebaron Bonney

I need an interior for my A, I am very interested in this issue. I always planned to use LeBaron Bonney but now that I have the money saved up I want to be sure about my choice.

Re: H&H Model A motor thrust bearing issue

Very true, but what is the point of going through all those modifications when the original will certainly last at least that long if not abused?

Re: H&H Model A motor thrust bearing issue

Neither the block nor the crank were designed for center thrust, I question this modification.

Re: New distributor skips a beat

One thing that might help narrow down the problem is using a spark tester like the Nurex one. It has an adjustable gap and you can watch the spark while the engine is running. When the engine...

Re: Worn out 31 roadster value?

I agree Bob, the plan would be to swap the motor and do the minimum to make it safe for local use. No cosmetics other than a good cleaning, blanket for the seat and maybe a new top. All work to be...

Re: Worn out 31 roadster value?

Thank you gentlemen for you help! One problem is that there is no asking price, the owner has only recently decided to part with it and has not set a price. If my friend can get it it will stay stock...

Worn out 31 roadster value?

A friend is trying to buy a 31 Deluxe Roadster and asked me what I thought it was worth, never an easy answer. I looked at it with him but I don't have pictures. The car has not run in at least 20...
