Re: Front Axle Movement

Thanks for the replies, I kind of thought it might have to do with the rubber ball as there has to be some play in that assembly due to the flex in the rubber. I picked up a spare wishbone with a...

Re: Repop Ammeter Junk

With respect to quality reproduction parts at additional cost, take a look at the 30-31 brake light switches. There is now a quality switch, I believe made in the USA, that is around $50 versus the...

Re: Repop Ammeter Junk

I also saw that $9500 ammeter and was scratching my head, but if you go to that vendors "store" you will find roughly 25 other simple items with $9500 - $10,000 BIN price tags. The only thing I can...

Repop Ammeter Junk

I just purchased one of the newest repop 20 amp ammeters for around $8 and it's a piece of junk. The tabs on the bezel don't match the cutouts in the instrument panel, the "glass" is now a thin piece...

Re: 1931 Ford roadster Trico wiper motor.

I understand that Trico came out with an aftermarket "replacement" wiper motor, which had some differences from the originals. I think the way in which the metal cover was attached is one of them. I...

Re: Gas Shutoff/empty carburetor for overnight/long term parking.

My dad always ran the gas out of the carb on his Model A and I do the same, with no ill effects.

Re: Broken Manifold Bolt

If you do drill it out to install a helicoil you might want to use a drill guide to help ensure the drill is going in straight. Someone replaced a manifold stud on my Model A and got it crooked and...

Re: radiator failure

Just had the neck resoldered on my radiator. Had it done right by a professional at an old time radiator shop. My advice, pull the radiator and have it done right, then no worries down the road.

Re: Oil change added 5 quarts

Speaking of oil at Walmart, is straight SAE 30 no longer available? I could only find it in a 5 quart HD diesel application, which I bought figuring it would do no harm (well, only to my wallet). No...

Re: Valve Noise

From what I understand the chassis this engine came out of was a long stalled restoration from the 1970's that never got finished and the coupe body and fenders were removed and sold to a hot-rodder...

Valve Noise

As a follow up to my recent "Bent Valve" posting, in checking the valve clearances for the other seven valves (non-adjustable tappets), five were good ranging from .013 to .015, however valve #2...

Re: Bent Intake Valve

Measured the valve clearances using the method in Les Andrews Handbook. Here are the results: #1-.052, #2-.025, #3-bent removed, #4-.015, #5-.014, #6-.013, #7-.015, #8-.015.

As can be seen valve...

Re: Bent Intake Valve

At first I thought that I might have bent the valve pulling the head, but was very careful not to pry on the valve side of the block due to chances of cracking something. I used a flat putty knife...

Bent Intake Valve

Since changing engines in the Model A last summer from one in a running chassis there has been a clicking sound coming from the front of the engine that sounded like a valve out of adjustment....

Re: Intake Manifold to carb ears
