Re: help needed

The ones I show are '49-'51 Merc. and only have 4 bolts.

Re: help needed

Just to give a direction to go in, '49 -'51 Mercury as well as F! pickups used the 11" Bendix brakes. The cylinder on the Merc. is two (2) bolt.
Don't know for sure but the F1's are probably the...

Re: Leaf spring alignment bolt under axle pad

It holds the leaf pack together, the upper locating head (round pin) just fits into the locating hole in the axle pad. Does not have to be removed.
You have to lift the axle housing off of it to...

Re: Old Herbrand Tool for pulling heads off Flathead V8's.

Yes was used on Flathead Fords but may be universal and work on any non-Ford flathead engine.

Re: Installing a steering stabilizer

To answer your question, yes you will most likely have to fabricate a bracket to attach it to the frame. (or wishbone )
You obviously did not pay attention to the product information as it was...

Re: 51 Merc solenoid

Most likely used for something like an aux. light (or something else) at one time.
What is the other side hooked to?
And what is the grounding wire hooked to.
The feed wire from the solenoid is...

Re: Flathead valve job question

Lapping is still part of the process (after re-grinding), the same as it was many moons ago.

Re: Flathead valve job question

Repeat--"Ask the machine shop" They are the ones doing the job.
The last couple I had done the machine shop had any adapters that are required.

Re: How do estimate the price a rare ( I think) part?

Don't know if you are into EBAY but a search there for parts for sale and sold parts will give an idea what parts are being sold for and asking prices.
This is an example of passenger car stands for...

Re: 1947 Air Cleaner Maintenance Decal

I was told that the location of the decal was determined by how many drinks the person who put them on had before coming to work that day.:)

Re: 37 Hump conversion to Flatback

Piece of cake if you are capable of doing metal work or are you just looking for approval.
Don't dilly-dally, start cutting and fitting and stop hemming and hawing and looking for approval.

Re: convert 1949 ford Starter to 12 volt

I have owned and worked on flathead Fords and Mercury's since the early '50's and have seen a number of flywheel starter ring gears, both mine and some belonging to others that had "severe damage"....

Don't think they are saying not to remove it, but if a little bit goes unseen after cleaning, it will not harm anything.

Re: Air/Fuel Meter/gauge

Ya' I can see where altitude change could present a problem.
Would be nice to adapt an aircraft carb. with variable mixture control on the dash but those are for the most part, up draft carbs.

Re: Air/Fuel Meter/gauge

Trying to achieve those readings at idle seems like too lean to me.
What are your cruise speed readings?

Re: Bolt inside water pump

As stated grade 5 bolts and steel lock washers (not stainless)
If it makes you feel more comfortable, paint them with a coat of non-hardening Permatex after installation.

Re: Bolt inside water pump

Yes, this was caused by the SS lock washer under the steel bolt.
